Kirti Azad On Indian Athletes Before Paris Olympics 2024: The days of the 2024 Olympics in Paris are slowly drawing closer. The 2024 Olympic Games will be played from 26 July to 11 August, but before that, former cricketer and MP Kirti Azad talked about Indian athletes. He told how even today Indian athletes travel in general compartments of trains and their luggage is kept in the toilet.
Kirti Azad’s anger erupted in the Parliament. He said in his speech, “I also remember when I was young, there was no money in cricket at that time, so we used to travel in third class train bogies. In front of the toilet…our luggage used to be lying in the toilet. Not in cricket, but the situation of our athletes is the same even today. They travel in general compartments and sit in front of the toilet and their luggage is in the toilet. They play on uneven grounds. They do not get proper food. They live in dormitories and food is cooked in front of the toilet. This has been seen many times on TV.”
He further said, “We talk about what is our preparation? If you have to talk about preparing for the Olympics, then you should prepare for 2028 (Olympics) now, not when your team is gone.” Talking about cricket, he said that people teach us about cricket.
The former cricketer further said, “It is a great pleasure that when our wrestling girls came, the Prime Minister welcomed them, respected them, was very happy when he was eating with them, but was saddened when those women were tortured and they observed a silent protest.
MP Kirti Azad further said about Neeraj Chopra, “Today let’s talk about the fact that we sent Neeraj Chopra. I want to know what did the government do for Neeraj Chopra until he won the gold medal in javelin throw?” Similarly, about shooter Abhinav Bindra, he said, “What did the government or his association federation do before Abhinav Bindra won the first gold medal in shooting?”
Similarly, he talked about many players. He said what does the government do before star players become stars. The government should answer this. Then, he targeted the Indian Sports Authority and said, are there coaches there? Who will search for talent in Khelo India, is there any arrangement for that? Then, he further said that about 70 percent of the coach positions are lying vacant.
