The Kerala State Lottery Program was established in 1967. This is the first program of its kind in India, which runs under the Lottery Department of the Kerala Government. Actually, earlier, lottery was run by private companies in Kerala, which was banned by the Kerala Government and then the Kerala State Lottery Program was started in 1967. The government believed that this would provide employment to people and also fill the government treasury. At present, more than 500 people work in this department. Earlier it was under the Finance Department, but now it has been brought under the Tax Department.
The Kerala government believes that the GST collected from lottery ticket sales has benefited Kerala’s welfare programs. In addition, every month, hundreds of families are able to come out of poverty thanks to the Kerala Lottery program. Every day at 3 pm, thousands of people eagerly wait for the results in the hope of winning a lottery worth crores.
Kerala State Lottery conducts 6 bumper lotteries annually, one monthly draw and 7 weekly lotteries every week. The lottery results are released every day at 3 pm.
