In Karnataka, a 31 -year -old man was overwhelmed to click on the link on WhatsApp from an unknown number. The victim had clicked on the link to give donation, but it was the speed of scammers and one lakh rupees were blown away from his account. The victim has told the police in the complaint. According to reports, a message came to the victim on WhatsApp. In this, donation was sought for medical aid, education funds and wheelchairs. A link was also given with this message. The victim considered it real and clicked it on the link. On clicking on the link, an RPC app automatically was installed in his phone. The full name of RPC is a remote procedure call and such apps are used to code from one computer to another. They come under different names.
Lime put in the name of investment
Cyber criminals are defrauding people by misusing RPC apps. In this case, the scammers installed the Malaysian app on the pretext of an investment app. After this, the scammers told the victim that he can earn Rs 2,000 by watching 40 videos daily. The aggrieved person came into the talk of scammers and transferred Rs 56,000 to start the account. A few days later, when he wanted to withdraw his earnings from the app, he was asked for Rs 56,000 more from him. This time too, he relied on the same amount of money, relying on the scammers. In this way, he sent about 1.12 lakh rupees to the scammers. When he was constantly demanding money, he realized the fraud.
How to avoid such scams
- Do not click on the link and attachment given in the message or email received from an unknown person.
- Never download the apps from the link sent by an unknown person.
- Do not share other information including your bank account details with any suspect or unknown person.
