Case Filed Against Emergency: Bollywood’s queen actress Kangana Ranaut’s troubles are not showing any signs of ending. While his film ‘Emergency’ was in controversies before its release, even after coming on screen, the film does not seem to be coming out of the controversy. Now a case has been registered against ‘Emergency’ alleging copyright.
The matter is related to national poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. There is an allegation against ‘Emergency’ that the line from Dinkar’s poem ‘Jantantra Ka Janam’ written on January 26, 1950 – ‘Vacate the throne so that the public comes’ has been used without permission in the film. This line was later included in Dinkar ji’s famous book Neel Kusum. The copyright of this book is with Kalpana Singh, the legal heir of late Shri Kedarnath Singh (son of national poet Dinkar ji).
What is the whole matter?
The line ‘Shinhasan Khali Karo Ki Janata Aati Hai’ has been used without permission in the promotion of Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ and in a song. The song has been written by Manoj Muntashir. The presence of this line in the film was revealed during the promotion of the film on 26 August 2024. In such a situation, a legal notice was sent to the film maker on 31 August 2024. But the makers did not give any answer to this.
Manoj Muntashir distanced himself from the case
In the telephonic conversation that followed, Manoj Muntashir told Dinkar ji’s grandson Ritwik Udayan that he had included this line in the song at the behest of Kangana Ranaut. Manoj clarified that he has nothing to do with this matter.
Patna High Court issued notice to the makers
The allegation of copyright had filed a petition in the Patna High Court under civil writ jurisdiction case number 19202/2024. This matter was placed before Justice Abhishek Reddy on January 17, 2025. ‘Emergency’ was released worldwide on the same day, so instead of banning the release of the film, the court ordered to issue a notice to the accused.
