Kamindu Mendis Fastest 1000 Test Runs: Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis is unstoppable by anyone. He has crossed the mark of one thousand runs in the 13th innings of his Test career. He has achieved this feat in the second match of the current Test series against New Zealand. Sri Lanka declared the first innings on the score of 602 runs. Mendis has created history by scoring unbeaten 182 runs in this match.
Kamindu Mendis has now equaled Sir Don Bradman in scoring the fastest 1,000 runs in the history of Test cricket. Mendis achieved this feat in the 13th innings of his career and Don Bradman also took 13 innings to complete 1000 runs in his Test career. However, the record for scoring the fastest 1,000 runs is jointly held by England’s Herbert Sutcliffe and West Indies’ ED Weeks, who completed 1,000 runs in 12 innings.
5 centuries and 4 fifties in 8 matches
Kamindu Mendis made his Test debut playing against Australia in July 2022, in which he played a half-century of 61 runs. But after returning to the Sri Lankan team in 2024, his bat is busy scoring runs. Mendis has played 8 test matches in his career so far, in whose 13 innings he has scored 5 centuries and 4 fifties. Mendis’s excellent statistics show that he is scoring 50 runs or more in almost 2 out of every 3 innings.
Asian record destroyed
Kamindu Mendis has now become the fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket. Before him, Vinod Kambli of India had completed 1000 Test runs in 14 innings and till now he was at the top in the list of Asian batsmen. But now Mendis has also made the record of being the fastest Asian batsman to score thousand test runs.
