With this, he has left behind Indian captain Rohit Sharma in terms of playing the most centuries in international cricket.

Joe Root has scored the 33rd century of his Test career in the clash against Sri Lanka. Apart from this, he has also scored 16 centuries in ODI format, which has taken his total number of centuries in international cricket to 49. On the other hand, India’s ODI and Test team captain Rohit Sharma has scored 48 centuries in international cricket so far. Rohit has scored 31 centuries in ODIs, 12 in Test career and 5 centuries in T20 matches. This takes his total number of centuries to 48.
Joe Root leads the test
Joe Root is now just one century away from becoming the batsman who has scored the most centuries for England in Test cricket. He has come on par with Alastair Cook in terms of scoring the most centuries, as he too had scored a total of 33 centuries in his Test career. Let us tell you that apart from these two, no other batsman from England has been able to score 30 or more centuries in Test cricket. Behind them is Kevin Pietersen, who has 23 centuries in Test matches.
Virat Kohli is far ahead in international records
Talking about current cricketers, Virat Kohli holds the record of scoring the most centuries in international cricket. Kohli is at the top with 80 centuries in international cricket so far. After Virat, Joe Root (49) comes next in this list and after him, the third position is held by Rohit Sharma (48).
