Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan wedding actress father told Harivansh Rai that my family is ruined.

But do you remember that Amitabh and Jaya got married in a private ceremony. Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan has described the marriage in his autobiography. Jaya Bachchan’s father had told Harivansh Rai Bachchan – ‘My family is completely ruined.’

Wrote in autobiography- ‘Jaya’s family decided that they will not hold the ceremony in their flat in the beach house and will do it on the top floor of a friend’s house. So that it can go unnoticed. We sent a telegram to Jagdish Rajan to come immediately with his family and did not tell the reason. Teji invited Mrs. Gandhi over the phone. As we knew that she could not come herself and sent wishes and her coming would have ended the secrecy.’

He wrote- ‘Jaya Bachchan’s family wanted the wedding to be according to Bengali customs and Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s family had no problem with this. The first stage was Var-Pooja. In this, Jaya’s father came to Mangal (Amitabh’s house) with gifts and did a small ceremony. Similarly, I did the same for the bride at the beach house. I noticed that apart from Jaya, no one from her family showed much happiness.’

He further wrote, ‘Rituals like Haldi were performed in a peaceful atmosphere. To keep the wedding private, we had to lie to the neighbours about the decorations done in the house that it was for the shooting of Amitabh’s next film.’

‘The baraat was welcomed in a very quiet manner. When they reached the mandap, they saw Jaya as a bride and she was feeling shy. After the wedding, five baraatis had food and left, only the family members stayed.’

He further wrote, ‘What was a bit unexpected was that when we were leaving, I hugged my daughter-in-law’s father and congratulated him for getting a son-in-law like Amit and was hoping he would say the same for Jaya, but he said – my family is completely ruined.’

Let us tell you that Jaya and Amitabh have been married for 51 years. The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. The daughter’s name is Shweta and the son’s name is Abhishek Bachchan.
