ICC Chairman Greg Barclay Steps Down: The current ICC chairman Greg Barclay has announced that he is going to step down as chairman after the end of his term. In such a situation, the race to become the new chairman has become interesting, in which the name of BCCI’s current secretary Jay Shah is also coming up. Whether Jay Shah wants to come into the role of chairman or not, it will be clear by August 27 because till this date candidates can apply for the post of ICC chairman.
Let us tell you that a person can become ICC chairman 3 times and one term is of 2 years. New Zealand’s Greg Barclay will soon complete 4 years as chairman and his current term is ending on 30 November. That is, the new chairman will take charge of ICC from 1 December and the last date for applying for this post has been kept as 27 August.
Will Jai Shah apply?
There have been speculations earlier that Jay Shah is one of the biggest contenders who can replace Greg Barclay as ICC chairman. Let us remind you that Shah took over as BCCI secretary in 2019 and will complete 6 years in this post in 2025. Let us tell you that Shah is currently the head of Financial and Commercial Affairs in the ICC. The good thing is that Shah has very good relations with all 16 voting members.
It is also an astonishing fact that Jay Shah can create history by becoming the youngest ICC chairman at the age of only 35. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar are the Indians who have held the post of ICC chairman.
