He has seen poverty closely and at one time he was in need of even a small amount. Javed had narrated the story of his struggle in his and Salim Khan’s recent documentary series ‘Angry Young Man’.
left home at a young age
Javed Akhtar himself shared his story while being emotional. He left his home and came to Mumbai at a young age. He had said, ‘After graduation, I decided that I will go to Bombay and work as an assistant director there. I was sure that after a few years of starting like this, I would become a director. I never looked back nor did I take any help from my family. My aunt brought me up, I left everything at the age of 15, but my intentions behind doing so were pure.
Javed Akhtar remained hungry for two days
Javed had further told that, ‘After coming to Mumbai, I stayed with my friends for a few days, slept at the railway station, park, studio compound, corridor, even on the bench. Many times I had to walk to Dadar and Bandra because I did not even have money to pay the bus fare. Many times we did not get food for two days. Then I thought that if a biography was written on me in the future, all these things would be very important.
There is no difference between a human and a dog
During another interview, when Javed Akhtar was asked about being hungry, he said that it is sad to remain hungry for two-three days. On the third day there is no difference between a human and a dog.
