Team India Captain Jasprit Bumrah: In India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma was able to score only 31 runs in 5 innings. As soon as he decided not to play in the Sydney Test under pressure, speculations about his retirement and making Jasprit Bumrah the new captain of the Test team started gaining momentum. According to a media report, Bumrah is a strong contender to become the Test captain, but there is a problem which may never allow him to become the captain.
Let us remind you that Bumrah got injured during the India vs Sydney Test. Once he went to the dressing room, he was not able to come back to the field. At present, Bumrah is said to have swelling in his waist and continued injuries can send him away from captaincy forever. Due to waist swelling problem, he may have to miss the Champions Trophy also.
According to news agency PTI, the Indian team management is very serious about leadership. At present the focus is on finding a good vice-captain. Currently, the names of Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal have come up for vice-captaincy. In the recently held BCCI review meeting, Bumrah’s back injury was discussed in depth and it was also expected that he would be fit for the Test series against England in June-July.
Possible reasons for Bumrah not getting captaincy
Jasprit Bumrah may never become the captain of Team India. A major reason for this is his frequent injuries. On the other hand, Bumrah is 32 years old and history has witnessed that due to increasing age, fast bowlers are more likely to get injured. In such a situation, if Bumrah will not be able to remain fit for a long time, then what is the use of handing over the captaincy to him?
