In fact, 42-year-old James Anderson, who took the most wickets as a fast bowler in Test cricket, had given his name in the IPL 2025 auction. Everyone was eager to see who would buy this experienced fast bowler. However, fans just kept waiting on both the days of the auction. Anderson’s name was not called in the auction. This clearly means that no team showed interest in Anderson.
Anderson had kept his base price for IPL at Rs 1.25 crore. He has never played in IPL before in his career. Even he played the last T20 match of his career about 10 years ago. Anderson was playing only Test cricket for England for the last several years. He ended his international career by playing his last match against West Indies at Lord’s in July 2024. Now he had expressed his desire to play in T20 leagues around the world, but he was ignored in the IPL auction.
James Anderson himself had revealed that he is very eager to play in the IPL. Speaking to BBC Radio, he said, “I think I still have a passion for the game. I have never played in the IPL and I think I still have a lot to offer as a player.”
James Anderson has 704 wickets in his name in Test cricket and 269 wickets in ODI. He has taken 1126 wickets in First Cricket, 358 wickets in List A and 41 wickets in T20. In this way he has more than 1500 wickets in his name.
