Aakash Chopra On Ravichandran Ashwin Fitness: A three-match test series is being played between India and New Zealand. The first match of the series was played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in which Team India had to face defeat by 8 wickets. Just a few hours after this defeat, BCCI took a big decision and made changes in the Indian team. Now after this change, Aakash Chopra asked BCCI whether Ashwin is unfit? So let us know what the whole matter is.
In fact, after Team India’s defeat in the Bengaluru Test, BCCI made a major change in the Indian squad and included all-rounder Washington Sundar in the team for the last two Tests. As soon as Sundar joined the team, Aakash Chopra raised the question whether Ashwin is not completely fit? The former Indian cricketer also mentioned that Ashwin was used sparingly in the second innings of the Test played against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Ashwin bowled only 2 overs during the second innings.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “Washington Sundar’s name has come in the team. It was a bit different from expectations. He just scored a century. He was playing for Tamil Nadu and they beat Delhi. Sai Sudarshan also defeated Delhi. He scored a double century and Sundar scored a century.”
Further, on Ashwin’s fitness, Aakash Chopra said, “He (Sundar) was given a place in the team. The question that comes to mind is what is Team India thinking? Do they want to play another spinner? Already in the traveling reserve. Are some bowlers not fully fit? What is the logic behind not bowling him on the last day? So, did he suffer some minor injuries and you want Washington Sundar to be almost similar to him in terms of skill?”
Then further regarding the spinners in the team, Aakash Chopra said, “Are they thinking that they want to play three spinners, but along with Jaddu and Ashwin, one more off-spinner should be played and Kuldeep should not be played. Because the opposing team Tom Latham, Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway scored runs. I’m a bit divided as to which direction Washington Sundar’s selection is pointing.”
