IPL 2025 Retention Rules BCCI AGM: IPL 2025 is still far away but due to the mega auction, the excitement for the upcoming season is increasing. The topic of retention rules has also remained the center of discussion before the auction. According to some reports, each team will be able to retain 5 players in the mega auction and will be allowed to use Right to Match (RTM card) on one player. But now a big update has come out that teams may have to pay a heavy price for retention.
BCCI has recently increased the salaries of the players playing in IPL. Jai Shah told that now every player will be given a separate match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh in addition to his contract. For this, each team will have to prepare a match fee budget of Rs 12.6 crore.
Teams will have to pay a heavy price!
If we look at these figures together, Rs 75 crore of a team can be spent on paying retained players and match fees. In such a situation, to build a strong team, every franchise will have to spend money wisely. This time the auction will be held on a larger scale, hence the excitement towards the auction has also increased equally.
It is also worth noting that teams seem to be facing a lot of problems in making their budget due to retention policy and RTM card. If a team retains all 5 players, then they may spend less money, but the important thing here will be to retain those 5 players so that the team’s auction budget does not get spoiled completely. On the other hand, there is also speculation about a rule that if a team retains only one player, then after that 5 other players will be allowed to play RTM cards.
