IPL 2025 MS Dhoni to be Uncapped Player: There is good news for the fans of Chennai Super Kings. It seems that ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni will once again be seen creating a stir in the Indian Premier League field. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has brought back an old rule in the IPL for the IPL 2025 season. Under which Dhoni can once again become a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team.
Uncapped players rule reinstated
The uncapped players rule has been re-introduced for IPL 2025. According to this rule, a player who has not been playing international cricket for the last five years will be considered an uncapped player. Also, if the player does not have a central contract with BCCI, then he will also be counted as an uncapped player. This simply means that MS Dhoni has now come in the category of uncapped player.
Dhoni’s IPL salary will decrease
Due to this rule, Chennai Super Kings can retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore. Under the new rules, every team can retain 6 players, which will include 5 capped and 2 uncapped players. This will not have any significant impact on Chennai’s auction purse of Rs 120 crore and Dhoni can remain a part of the ‘Yellow Army’ for a few more seasons. Dhoni has been associated with Chennai Super Kings since 2008. He has made the team IPL champion 5 times (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023).
Dhoni’s IPL salary (from 2008 to 2024)
- 2008 to 2010: Rs 6 crore
- 2011 to 2013: Rs 8.28 crore
- 2014 to 2017: Rs 12.5 crore
- 2018 to 2021: Rs 15 crore
