Mega Starts In IPL 2025 Auction: Before IPL 2025, all 10 teams announced the list of retained players. Teams had the right to retain at most 6 players, yet only 2 teams retained 6 players. The number of players retained by other teams was less than 6. At the same time, the teams also released some mega star players, which was really a shocking decision. Four captains retired
While releasing the list of retained players, 4 out of 10 IPL franchises dismissed the captains. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and last season’s champion Kolkata Knight Riders released the team captains. The most surprising decision of releasing the captains was that of Knight Riders.
KKR had won the title in the last season i.e. IPL 2024 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. Now before IPL 2025, the franchise has released the title-winning captain. Apart from this, the remaining three captains to be released were Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis. Pant was released by Delhi Capitals. Pant was commanding Delhi for the last few seasons.
Apart from this, Faf du Plessis was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Whereas KL Rahul was released by Lucknow Super Giants. Rahul was captaining Lucknow since 2022.
The blame fell on these players
The mega stars to be released included many names including Team India’s fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. Shami was released by Gujarat, while Siraj was released by RCB.
