Ricky Ponting Opens up on Unsold Prithvi Shaw: A total of 182 players were bought in the mega auction of IPL 2025, on which Rs 639.15 crore was spent. Players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer were sold for crores, while big names like Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur remained unsold. Prithvi Shaw being unsold remains a topic of discussion. Former Australian captain and Punjab Kings head coaching Ricky Ponting has given his reaction on this.
Ricky Ponting said about Prithvi Shaw, “Prithvi was the most talented player I have worked with. But it is sad that he remained unsold and then his name did not even appear in the accelerator round. Many teams were eyeing him. She was keeping it, but in recent times she has not given the respect to the game which is required. The game always teaches you a lesson. Ricky Ponting has said all these things on the Cricbuzz platform.
Prithvi Shaw left his mark in Indian cricket by scoring a century on Test debut, but due to continuous poor form and fitness problems, he had to be dropped from the Indian team. Shaw’s exclusion from the playing eleven of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and his recent exclusion from the Mumbai Ranji team was a big blow to his career.
Apart from this, Ricky Ponting also gave a statement regarding Shardul Thakur. He said, “Just two years ago we had spent Rs 10 crore on Shardul, but now he is unsold. This proves that success in cricket depends not only on talent but also on consistency and discipline.”
Prithvi Shaw has played 79 matches in IPL. In these 79 matches, he has scored 1892 runs at a strike rate of 147.5. Which includes 14 half-centuries. Shardul Thakur has taken 94 wickets in 95 IPL matches at an economy of 9.23.
