IPL 2025 Mega Auction Registered Players List: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL 2025 mega auction will be organized on 24-25 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The deadline for registration of the auction was set for the players on November 4. Now a total of 1,574 players have registered. Apart from India, players from countries like England, Australia and Italy, USA have also given their names for the auction. But this number is going to reduce to half even before the auction starts, so let us know why and how this will happen?
Only half the players will go to auction!
1,574 players have registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction, this does not mean that all these players will be included in the auction pool. Actually, before the date of the auction, the list of names of these 1,574 players will be sent to all the 10 teams. For example, if a team prepares a list of 40-50 players on whom it can bid in the auction.
Suppose if each team shows interest in 50 players before the auction, then the number of players selected by all the 10 teams will remain only 500. If this happens, then out of 1,574 players, only 500 players will go to the auction pool and the remaining 1,074 players will be shown the way out even before the auction process starts. But the number of players sold in the auction is even less.
1,370 players will return empty handed
According to the example given above, if 500 players enter the auction pool, then the number of players sold will also be less than half. Because 10 teams play in IPL and each team can prepare a squad of maximum 25 players only. In such a situation, the total number of players to be sold or retained can go up to a maximum of 250.
Since on October 31, all the teams have released their respective retention lists, in which all 10 teams including Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata have retained a total of 46 players. This means that now only a maximum of 204 players can be bought in the mega auction. This means that out of the 1,574 players who have given their names for the mega auction, 1,370 players will have to return home empty handed.
Most players are from India
Out of the 1,574 players who have given their names for the mega auction, 1,165 players are from India. More than 50 players from South Africa, Australia and England have given their names for the auction. This time the auction will be special because players from USA, UAE, Canada and even a player from Italy have staked claim to enter the auction.
