Indian Stock Market Closing On 5 August 2024: The first trading session of the week proved to be a Black Monday for the Indian stock market. The Japanese stock exchange Nikkei 225 fell by 13 percent or 4750 points and the US stock market fell sharply in the last trading session due to fears of recession, causing chaos in the Indian markets. The BSE Sensex fell by 2700 points and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty by 825 points during the day’s trading. Midcap and smallcap stocks also could not withstand this storm in the market and the stocks of both the sectors fell down drastically.
Due to this fall in the stock market, investors have suffered a loss of Rs 15.50 lakh crore in a single session. At the end of today’s trading, the BSE Sensex fell by 2222 points to close at 78,759 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty fell by 662 points to close at 24,055 points.
Strong profit booking in PSU stocks
Due to this fall in the market, Bharat Forge closed with a fall of 6.18%, Madrasan 9.18%, LIC Housing Finance 8.34%, Tata Motors 7.31%, Mphasis 4.43%, Bharat Electronics 4.19%, Hindustan Copper 6.71%, Nolco 6.62%, SAIL 6.57%, ONGC 6.01%, GMR Airport 5.61%. Despite this big fall, the stocks which remained bullish include Dr Lalpath Lab 2.05%, Marico 1.47%, Dabur India 1.03%, HUL 0.87%, Nestle 0.63%, HDFC Life 0.49%, Tata Consumer Products 0.48%.
Investors lost more than 15 lakh crores
Investors have suffered huge losses due to the huge fall in the Indian stock market. The market cap of the stocks listed on BSE has dropped to Rs 441.83 lakh crore from Rs 457.16 lakh crore in the previous session. Investors lost Rs 15.33 lakh crore in today’s session.
Stocks of all sectors closed down
Due to the tsunami in the stock market, stocks of all sectors have fallen. PSU stocks, which had seen a big rise in the recent days, have been hit the most. There has been a big sell-off in IT-Auto and Energy Banking, Metals, Pharma, FMCG stocks. Midcap and Smallcap stocks have been hit the most by the fall. Out of the 4189 stocks that were traded, 3414 stocks fell while only 664 stocks closed with a rise.
