Indian Origin Canadian Athletes Represent Canada at Paris Olympics 2024: The 33rd edition of the Olympics, the great sports event, is going to be held in Paris. Less than six days are left for the start of Paris Olympics 2024. The athletes participating in it are busy preparing for it. One of them is Jessica Gaudriault. Jessica Gaudriault is the goalkeeper of the Canadian water polo team. She is an athlete of Indian origin. Jessica Gaudriault has got a place in the Canadian water polo team, which is going to represent Canada in the Olympics 2024.
Jessica Gaudriault belongs to Punjab
Jessica Gaudriault, goalkeeper of Canada’s water polo team, is all set to bring glory not only to her country but also to her mother’s village Punjab, India. 30-year-old Jessica hails from Ottawa, Canada, but her mother Ajit Kaur Tiwana hails from Chanarthal Kalan village in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. Jessica’s mother and maternal grandfather Amrit Singh Sathi are extremely proud of her Olympic selection.
Jessica Gaudriault started playing water polo at the age of 14
Jessica Gaudriault’s water polo story began in 2008 at the age of 14 when her parents sent her to summer camp after seeing her interest in the sport. Her hard work soon paid off as she played a key role in Canada’s fifth-place finish at the first World Aquatics (FINA) World Youth Championships in 2012.
In 2017, she played a key role in Canada’s silver medal win at the FINA World League Super Final and was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Playing for the Capital Wave Swimming and Water Polo Club, she has also won silver medals at the Pan-American Games in Toronto (2015), Lima (2019) and Santiago (2023).
Two more athletes will also represent Canada
Along with Jessica, there are two other players representing Punjab in the Paris Olympics.
- Jasneet Nijjar: Jasneet Nijjar, a 23-year-old runner from British Columbia, will be a member of Canada’s women’s 4x400m relay team. She is the first Indian-origin Canadian woman to participate in a track and field event at the Olympics.
- Amar Dhesi: 23-year-old Amar Dhesi, who hails from British Columbia, will shine in wrestling. He finished 13th in the men’s 125 kg freestyle wrestling event in his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. Amar’s father Balbir Dhesi was a famous wrestler in India, who moved to Canada in 1976 and founded the Khalsa Wrestling Club in Surrey, British Columbia. This club shaped Amar’s career to a great extent.
