Indian 2 Review: If you have zero tolerance, then don’t dare to watch Indian 2 i.e. Hindustani 2: Zero Tolerance, because whatever little courage you have to tolerate will also go away. Anyway, after 28 years ‘Hindustani’ is back again. 28 years after the release of Indian i.e. Hindustani in 1996, director S Shankar has brought Hindustani 2.
Hindustani 2 could not be made properly and he has already started preparing to bring Hindustani 3. This is called overconfidence. This time Senapati (Kamal Haasan) is very sharp digitally, is active on social media, has been sitting in Taiwan for 28 years and has been waiting for corruption to increase in India and then he will return.
What is the story?
Like Hindustani, the story of this film also revolves around corruption. Chitra Aravindan (Siddharth) along with his three friends make and run satirical videos on corruption and the incidents happening around them under the name Barking Dogs. The death of a girl shakes him up. He remembers Hindustani. He runs a hashtag on social media that Comeback Indian. Senapathi (Kamal Haasan), who lives in Taipei, Taiwan, is aware of that hashtag. He was waiting to be called. This time Senapathi needs the support of the youth.
How is the movie?
If you have seen Hindustani, then do not watch this film by connecting it to it. In the name of masala film, so much expired masala has been added in it that your digestion will get spoiled. There is nothing in Hindustani 2 that can attract the youth. The cases of corruption shown in the film are not believable, especially in today’s era of social media, which has been given a very important place in this film. A doctor operates on an appendix after watching a YouTube video, but then nothing happens to him, the story comes and goes. At least the issues should have been raised keeping in mind today’s era and by doing research.
This time, Senapati’s character is no less than a superhero. He speaks Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi. He even outsmarts police vans while riding a bicycle. His specialty is Varma Kala, in which he kills the opponent in one stroke of his fingers. But this time, he turns big people into horses with this art. The Indian government may not have been able to bring back the fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya from abroad after committing a scam, but earlier three actresses in the film crew brought him to India and now in Hindustani 2, Senapati not only turns him from a man to a woman with his Varma Kala, but also kills him. The chase scene in the climax is very long. When Senapati’s six pack abs suddenly appear, it seems that are we fools to be watching this film.
Acting
Kamal Haasan is a wonderful actor. There is no point in judging his acting here. When the story itself is outdated and old fashioned, what can he do with his acting. Siddharth wins hearts in emotional scenes, but there is no backstory as to why his character is so rebellious against corruption. Rakul Preet Singh has got two-four scenes, which would not have made any difference if they were not there. Artists like Gulshan Grover, Piyush Mishra, Akhilendra Mishra have been wasted. Many times it seems why they said yes to the film.
Direction
When S Shankar takes up direction, there are expectations from him that he will bring today’s cinema. He has proved this in his previous films like Robot, 2.0 and Anniyan which Hindi audiences know as Aparichit. But watching Hindustani 2 is a huge disappointment. At times, one starts doubting whether this is really his cinema. The film is very long, after a point one feels that it’s enough, let it go now. Anyway, the story of Hindustani 2 is still incomplete, which will move forward in war mode in Hindustani 3.
