India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Super Over Rule: Two matches of the three-match ODI series being played between India and Sri Lanka have been completed. The first match of the series ended in a tie. After the match was tied, a question arose in the minds of the fans that why did they not get to see the ‘Super Over’? Now the answer to this question has come out. The answer to this question is ignorance of the rules and negligence of the officials. Due to ignorance of the rules, the Super Over was not seen in the first ODI.
In a report published in Dainik Jagran, a Sri Lankan official was quoted on the condition of anonymity as saying that the Super Over was an option as per the conditions for playing ODIs in December 2023. The Super Over was included in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both the boards.
The conditions for men’s ODIs were last changed in December 2023. Its clause 16.3.1.1 stated that any ODI match that ends in a tie will have a super over until a result is reached, but this rule was completely ignored. It was the responsibility of ICC officials, match referees, and all umpires to follow the pre-determined conditions.
According to a report published in ‘The Morning Telegraph’, the ICC official made it clear that now if another match in the ODI series is tied, then a super over will be conducted as per the new rules.
After tying the first ODI, India lost the second match
