There was a dispute over the toss in the second match of the Test series played between India and Australia in 2001, which was played in Kolkata. In this Kolkata Test, allegations were made against Australia regarding the delay in the toss.
An Australian magazine had written at that time that on some occasions Australian captain Steve Waugh was made to wait for the toss. The wait was made because Indian captain Sourav Ganguly used to arrive late for the toss. Waugh has also mentioned the delay in the toss in the series in his book ‘Out of My Comfort Zone’.
Why was the toss delayed?
Regarding the delay in the toss, Indian captain Sourav Ganguly immediately clarified that the toss was delayed due to the late arrival of the team’s blazers. Ganguly had also said that the toss was not delayed intentionally.
