Bangladesh Women’s T20 World Cup: A major coup has taken place in Bangladesh. The Prime Minister Hasani Sheikh has resigned from her post and fled the country. Now the army is in control of the country. Amidst this major coup, the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in Bangladesh is in danger. This T20 World Cup is to be held in the month of October. Keeping in view the current situation in Bangladesh, it seems difficult to organize the World Cup there.
A report in Cricbuzz said that it would not be a surprise if the tournament is held outside Bangladesh. There is violence in the country and an indefinite curfew has been imposed. Apart from this, the internet is also closed in the country.
The report also mentioned that the ICC decision is expected in a week and India has emerged as a strong contender among the alternative options.
“The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, their security agencies and our own independent security advisors,” an ICC spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report, hours after news broke that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had fled the country.
