India Test Record at Kanpur: Kanpur has a special place in the history of Indian cricket. Green Park Stadium is the same place where Team India defeated Australia for the first time in Test cricket. Now India’s second Test match against Bangladesh is also to be played in Kanpur. This match will start from 27 September. If we look at the statistics, the Indian team has not lost any Test match in Kanpur for the last 41 years.
In 1983, the West Indies team was touring India. The first match of the 5 test match series was played in Kanpur, in which West Indies scored 454 runs while batting first. In reply, India’s first innings was reduced to just 207 runs. Team India could not avoid the follow-on, so the visiting team called India to bat again. In the second innings, Dilip Vengsarkar scored 65 runs and Ravi Shastri scored an unbeaten 46 runs, but despite their efforts, the Indian team was all out for just 164 runs. Due to this, Team India had to face defeat by an innings and 83 runs.
41 years of winning streak
After 1983, India has played a total of 9 matches at the Green Stadium, out of which it won on five occasions and the match ended in a draw four times. India played its last match at this stadium against New Zealand in the year 2021, which was a draw. Team India’s last win at Green Park ground also came against New Zealand. India won the match played in 2016 by 197 runs.
Currently, it is rainy season in Kanpur and there is a high possibility of the first three days of the Test match against Bangladesh getting washed away by rain. In such a situation, even if the match is cancelled, India’s streak of not losing for 41 years will continue unabated.
