India Medals in Paris Olympics 2024: India had sent a total of 117 athletes for Paris Olympics 2024, but most of the athletes have failed to win medals this time too. India had won a total of 7 medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but this time the Indian team may not even touch that figure. So far, India has won only 3 medals. But in the meantime, there are many athletes who were deprived of winning medals by a difference of one position or just one point. It would not be wrong to call the number 4 a curse for the Indian team because in the Tokyo Olympic Games too, many Indian athletes had to face disappointment by finishing fourth.
Trouble number 4 for India
-Lakshya Sen is the latest victim of the fourth place. He faced Zi Jia Lee of Malaysia in the bronze medal match of the men’s singles badminton event. After winning the first game 21-13, Lakshya lost the next two games 16-21 and 11-21 respectively. Lakshya has to settle for the fourth place in the Paris Olympics 2024.
-So far, 5 athletes/teams have missed out on medals at Paris Olympics 2024 by finishing fourth. The first name that comes to mind is Manu Bhaker, who has won 2 bronze medals for India at the 2024 Olympic Games. But when the final of the 25m pistol event came, Manu had to settle for fourth place. Manu Bhaker managed to score 28 points as compared to the 31 points of the Hungarian shooter who finished third.
-Arjun Babuta also missed out on a medal. Arjun Babuta performed very well in the 10 meter air rifle competition. He qualified for the final with an amazing score of 630.1 in the qualification. But he could only score 208.4 in the final. Two bad shots in the 7th round of the final cost him dearly.
-In the mixed team competition of archery, the pair of Dheeraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhagat were performing very well. In the semi-finals, they had to face a 6-2 defeat against the world’s number-1 team Korea. At the same time, a very shameful performance was seen from Dheeraj and Akita in the bronze medal match, where they had to face a 6-2 defeat at the hands of USA. With this, this pair of Dheeraj-Ankita remained at the fourth position.
-India could have won many medals in shooting, but the trend of finishing fourth by a close margin continued in skeet shooting as well. In the bronze medal match, this Indian pair had to face defeat against China by a margin of 43-44 i.e. just 1 point.
