Virat Kohli Captaincy And Ravichandran Ashwin Retirement: Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket between Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. After the third Test of the series played at Gabba, Ashwin suddenly dropped the retirement bomb. The Indian spinner said goodbye to international cricket last Wednesday (18 December). Now after Ashwin’s retirement, a big claim was made from across the border, that is, from Pakistan, it was said that if Virat Kohli had been the captain of Team India, he would not have allowed Ashwin to retire.
Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali said that if Virat Kohli had been the captain of Team India, he would have stopped Ashwin from retiring in the middle of the series because Team India needs him in the Sydney Test.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said, “I guarantee that if Virat Kohli was the captain, he would not have allowed Ashwin to retire and would have asked him to announce retirement after two matches. Why so? Because India in Sydney. If Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid were also the coaches of Team India, they would not have allowed Ashwin to retire.
Basit Ali further said, “It is wrong that Rohit and Gambhir did not persuade him and said ‘not at this time, you are needed in these matches’ and especially in Sydney.”
The former Pakistan batsman also insisted that Ashwin’s sudden retirement was a secret, which was visible from his body language. Basit Ali said, “There are some things which you cannot say, but can still be understood. Body language tells everything. The way he hugged Virat Kohli.”
