ICC Champions Trophy 2025: ICC had called a meeting on 5th December to decide when the Champions Trophy issue will be resolved but now the date of the meeting has been extended to 7th December. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has to clear its stand on the hybrid model. India and Pakistan are face to face over the Champions Trophy, but apart from this the issue of broadcasters is also increasing everyone’s concern. Eight top teams of the world will be participating in the Champions Trophy, hence a lot of money has been invested in it.
Champions Trophy is no longer just a cricket tournament but according to TOI, 750 million dollars i.e. about Rs 6,350 crore in Indian currency is at stake. This is a huge amount considering the Indian market of cricket and if India does not participate in the tournament, not only ICC, but BCCI and even Pakistan Cricket Board may have to suffer huge losses. In such a situation, ICC will have to ensure that Pakistan agrees to the hybrid model because one mistake of PCB can lead to loss of more than Rs. 6 thousand crores.
Quoting a source, a broadcaster said that had Pakistan been out of the tournament, the financial loss could have been less. It was told that considering the possibility of financial loss, ICC is completely within its rights to shift the Champions Trophy from Pakistan to any other country. Let us also tell you that the PCB was ready to accept the hybrid model, but it also put forward some conditions. Pakistan said that if the hybrid model is implemented for the Champions Trophy, then the hybrid model should be adopted for Pakistan in the next ICC events to be held in India. Meanwhile, Pakistan is also in danger because if it does not accept the hybrid model, it may have to face a loss of 65 million dollars i.e. about 550 crores.
