ICC Meeting Today Champions Trophy 2025: Perhaps even the International Cricket Council (ICC) would not have thought that the decision to bring back the Champions Trophy after eight years would become one of the most controversial topics of 2024. Crores of rupees were allocated to Pakistan for organizing the tournament, but amidst these world-class preparations, BCCI had clearly refused to send its team to Pakistan. ICC has postponed the meeting not once but twice so far and the final decision on the Champions Trophy is to be given today i.e. on Wednesday.
The matter is stuck on PCB’s condition
Billions of rupees of broadcasters are stuck in Champions Trophy. In such a situation, considering the brand value and fanbase of the Indian team, ICC had no option to exclude India from the Champions Trophy. After all, the matter is stuck on the hybrid model, but Pakistan is not ready to back down under any circumstances. Actually, Pakistan Cricket Board is ready to accept the hybrid model, but there is a condition for it and this condition remains an ‘obstacle in the way’.
Pakistan has a condition that if the Champions Trophy is conducted through hybrid model. In such a situation, PCB wants that whatever ICC event will be held in India till the year 2031, the hybrid model should be implemented for Pakistan also. Under the hybrid model, Dubai was addressed as ‘neutral venue’ by the PCB. This clearly means that India and Pakistan will not tour each other’s countries and their matches will be held in Dubai.
In another report, it has also been claimed that even if BCCI agrees to implement the hybrid model in ICC events to be held in India by 2026, then Pakistan will agree to organize the Champions Trophy under the hybrid model. However, many media reports have claimed that the chances of BCCI accepting this proposal are very less.
