Dia Mirza On IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack Controversy: There was a lot of controversy regarding the web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. The series was accused of hiding the real identity of the terrorists. After which Netflix changed the names of the terrorists in the disclaimer of ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. Now the actress of the series, Dia Mirza, has reacted to this and said that everything is factual.
In an interview to Galatta Plus, Dia Mirza said, ‘I think what matters is the intention. I don’t think the show’s intention is to create any controversy. That’s the most important thing and that’s our truth. Secondly, I think whatever is being questioned is verifiable and factual. How do you debate that?’
What was the whole controversy?
Let us tell you that in ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, Dia Mirza has played the role of India Headlines editor Shalini aka Sha Chandra. This web series is based on the 1999 incident when Indian Airlines flight IC 814 was hijacked by five people after taking off from Kathmandu. At that time, there were 176 passengers and 15 crew members along with the pilot on the plane. These terrorists belonged to an Islamic organization. But in the web series, the names of these terrorists were shown as ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’, which caused controversy. However, later the makers changed these names.

The web series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, directed by Anubhav Sinha, was streamed on Netflix on 29 August 2024. Vijay Verma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Dia Mirza and Arvind Swami are in important roles in this series.
