Tripund Tilak: Worshiping Lord Shiva is considered to be the best in Sawan. This month is considered to be the best to please Lord Shiva. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and his family with full devotion throughout the month.
Every Monday of Sawan has its own importance. It is believed that worshipping Bholenath in the month of Sawan brings happiness, peace and prosperity.
According to Shiv Puran, Bhasm gives all kinds of auspiciousness. It is of two types-
- Mahabhasma
- ash
There are three types of Mahabhasma: Shrauta, Smarta and Laukika. Shrauta and Smarta are for the Dwijs and Laukika Bhasma is for the use of all people.
Dwijs should wear ash by chanting Vedic mantras. Other people can wear it without mantras. It is mentioned in Shiv Puran that ash made from burnt cow dung is called Agniya. That too is the substance of Tripund.
