India to host Olympics 2036: From time to time, India has been claiming to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Now the first concrete step has been taken towards turning this claim into truth. According to a media report, the Indian Olympic Association has written a letter to the International Olympic Committee and staked claim to host the 2036 Olympics. Now the question arises that if India gets hosting, how much will it cost?
Let us remind you that when India hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, the total expenditure was estimated at 1.4 billion US dollars i.e. about Rs 12,617 crore in Indian currency. But it is said that the real budget of the Games was much more than this, about Rs 70 thousand crores, which included many works including infrastructure and expansion of Delhi Metro. 72 countries and 18 other small states participate in the Commonwealth Games, but The Olympic Games are organized on a much larger scale than this.
How much does it cost to host the Olympics?
Taking the example of the Paris Olympics 2024, which concluded just a few months ago, a total of 9 billion US dollars was spent on organizing the games there. In Indian currency this amount is equivalent to approximately Rs 75,705 crore. If we look at the facts, Paris had hosted the Olympic Games very cheaply, but before that the countries hosting the Olympic Games had spent much more money than this.
The Games held in China in 2008 are considered to be the most expensive Olympic Games in the history so far. About US$6.8 billion was spent on the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but this does not include the several thousand crore rupees that were used to renovate Beijing. Including the money spent on expressways, train facilities and infrastructure related works, a total of 43 billion US dollars were spent on the 2008 Olympic Games. This amount is equal to Rs 3 lakh 61 thousand 703 crore in Indian currency.
