District Magistrate or DM is called the senior most officer of any district. After this, there are ADMs but if we talk about field powers, SDM is considered to be the second most powerful officer after DM. Because, SDM is an administrative post which has the official power to act even as a Sub Registrar Magistrate. Let us know what are the powers of an SDM…
What work does SDM do?
SDMs posted in districts are accountable to the DM of their district and report to him only. They are responsible for making every government scheme implemented in their division successful. Besides, he is also responsible for every other activity. They also have complete records of government or private lands.
The long and wide staff is subordinate
All the Tehsildars in the sub-division of SDM work under the SDM. SDM is considered the link between Tehsildar and DM. SDM has many responsibilities like revenue work, marriage registration, renewal of driving license, issuing certificates like domicile etc.
I get this much salary
An SDM gets a salary in the pay band 9300-34800 with grade pay 5400. Their salary starts from Rs 56,100 and can go up to Rs 1.77 lakh. Many allowances and other facilities are also given.
You get the same facilities as DM
An SDM gets the same facilities as a DM. These also include arrangements for accommodation, security guards and servants etc. However, there is a proportionate difference in the facilities provided to them and the DM. For example, the DM’s bungalow is quite big, whereas the SDM is given a smaller house in comparison. Similarly, there is difference in the number of servants also. However, the government also pays the bills for government vehicles, telephone, internet and electricity. High class accommodation facilities, leave for higher studies and pension facilities are also provided during tours across the state.
