Holi 2025: Holi is one of the main festivals of Sanatan Dharma. In our folk traditions, many folk tales continued to join. But they do not have any classical mention. Holi is often connected to Prahlada and Holika and is proven poorly by burning it.
But only a small mention of this is written in Narada Purana, East, Fourth Part, Chapter 124 that “Holika was a demon that was afraid of Prahlada.” At the same time, in any scripture, Pralhad burnt Holika alive or Holika was from a particular community. These are all folk tales which continued to connect with our traditions from time to time.
The truth is that the reason behind celebrating Holi is given in the future Purana, which is completely different from these folk tales. According to the Bhavishya Purana North Parv 132, Maharaj Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna why the festival of Phalgun is celebrated and why is Holi burnt everywhere? What is the reason that the children make noise from house to house on that day? Who says Adada, which deity is worshiped?
Lord Krishna said that there was a king named Raghu in Satyayuga. He conquered the entire earth and took the kings under his control and raised the people like a son. There was never a famine in his kingdom and no one died prematurely. Nobody was interested in unrighteousness, but one day the people of the city gathered at the Rajdwar and started calling ‘Tri’, ‘Tri’.
The king asked the frightened people in this way. Those people said that a demonic (Holika) named Dhonda (Holika) hurts our children every day and no mantra-grain, medicine, etc. are not affected by it, it is not being prevented in any way. Then the king asked Rajpurohit Maharishi Vasistha about that demon. Then he told the king that there is a monster named Mali, he has a daughter, named Dhondha.
He pleased Lord Shiva by doing fierce penance for a long time. He asked him to ask for a boon. On this, Dhondha asked for a boon that gods, demons, humans etc. cannot kill me and I should not be killed by weapons etc.
On this, Lord Shankar also said ‘Aastastu’ and said that ‘you will be afraid of frantic children. In this way, Lord Shiva went to his abode by giving a bride. The same Kamarupini named Dhondha hurts the demonic regular children. On chanting the ‘Adada’ mantra, she becomes silent, so it is also called Adada. This is the character of that demonic Dhondha. Now I am telling the way to get rid of him.
Today, on the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month, everyone should play fearlessly and should dance, sing and laugh. The child should take a sword made of wood and be eager to war with joy like brave soldiers and go out and celebrate.
Dry wood, ding, dry leaves etc. should be gathered at most one place and put a fire with mantras in that pile and laugh and laugh. By revolving around that burning pile thrice, children, old, have all the enjoyable conversations and be happy. In this way, that evil monstrous is prevented by the protectors, by performing havan, uproar and fear of the sword by the children.
Hearing this promise of Vasisthaji, King Raghu asked the people in the entire state to perform in the same way and cooperated in it themselves, which led to the demonic destruction. From the same day, the celebration of Dhondha became famous in this world and the tradition of Adada went on. The Brahmins are done on this day by the Brahmins, so it is also called Holika.
This is the full moon date of Phalgun, which gives the essence of all dates and the ultimate joy. On this day, children should be specially protected on the night. In the courtyard of the house, a child should be called for a lot of wood in the courtyard of the house and the children protected in the house should touch the wood. After the celebration of laughing, singing, playing, dancing etc., jaggery and good dish should be made to the children. With this method, the defect of Dhondha is definitely calm.
Maharaj Yudhishthira asked that the second day of the month of Vasanta comes from Chaitra month, what should be done on that day?
Lord Krishna said that on the second day of Holi, in the morning in Pratipada, he should get up in the morning and retire from the essential routine, worship for the ancestors and the gods and for the peace of all the defects, he should worship Holika and apply it in his body. Leap the courtyard of the house with cow dung and make a square board in it and decorate it with colorful axes. Put a back on it. Install a coordinated urn with the Pallavas including gold on the back.
White sandalwood should also be installed on the same back. Lucky woman should wear beautiful clothes, jewelery and worship that section with curd, milk, akshat, smell, flower etc. Then that sandalwood along with mango leaves should be applied. This leads to increase in age, attainment of health and all wishes are successful.
At the time of meals, the first day’s dish should be eaten a little and should eat at will. With this method, all the desires of the Falgunotsav, all of it, are proven spontaneously. Aadhi- Vyadhi is destroyed by all and he is fulfilled by son, grandson, wealth. This supreme sacred, Vijayadayini Purnima is going to remove all obstacles and is good in all dates.
Thus, we understand that no topic of Holi is associated with “Prahlada Jinda Jinda Jinda”. This is the problem of public consciousness. The season is the opportunity to change and is a symbol of social harmony.
