Morning Big Mistake: One mistake in the morning can increase the risk of Head and Neck Cancer. A new study shows that regularly brushing and flossing your teeth can reduce the risk of both these cancers. According to a study by American scientists, not cleaning the mouth can not only increase the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure but also head and neck cancer. Therefore, do not be careless about oral health.
What does the study say?
This study was done to identify the connection between the risk of cancer and certain bacteria in the mouth. The study, led by researchers at NYU Langone Health and its Perlmutter Cancer Center, found that more than a dozen of the hundreds of types of bacteria that live in the mouth increased the risk of head and neck squamous cell growth by 50 percent, while Small studies have linked certain bacteria in the mouth to cancer.

Risk of cancer increases due to not cleaning mouth
The study published in JAMA Oncology magazine looked at the genetic structure of oral germs collected from healthy men and women. Of the hundreds of different bacteria regularly found in the mouth, 13 species have been shown to increase or reduce the risk of HNSCC. Overall, the risk of cancer was 30 percent higher in this group. The risk was increased by 50 percent in combination with five other species often seen in gum disease.

What do researchers say?
Kwak, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Population Health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, said these bacteria can serve as biomarkers that can identify high risks. Kwak says that in previous investigations, some bacteria had already been detected in the tumor samples of people suffering from these cancers. Then, in 2018, the current research team explored how microbes might, over time, contribute to the subsequent risk of HNSCC in healthy participants. However, more research is still needed regarding this.
brush regularly
The researchers involved in this study say that brushing your teeth and flossing regularly. This can help prevent not only periodontal disease, but also head and neck cancer. There should not be any carelessness regarding oral health.
