COVID 19 Threat : Concerns about Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) have not diminished as Corona cases have started increasing once again. The threat of Covid-19 still remains in India. According to WHO report, two people died due to Covid in June-July last year.

Now the latest figures show that in the last two months, 77 new cases of this virus and 908 people have shown symptoms in the country. Worldwide, new cases of Covid have increased by 30%, while the number of deaths has increased by 26%. Where are new Corona cases increasing?

More than 1,86,000 new Covid cases and more than 2,800 deaths were reported in 96 countries. According to the COVID dashboard of the Health Ministry of India, cases have increased in many states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan and West Bengal. However, it is a matter of relief that till now there has been no increase in the number of serious cases or hospitalization.

Has a new form of Corona emerged?

WHO report states that in the last 28 days, 2370 deaths and about 195,433 active Covid cases have been reported worldwide. The report also said that JN.1, the most commonly reported variant of interest (VOI), has been found in 135 countries. Two new variants of JN.1, called KP.3.1.1 and LB.1, are becoming more common. Meaning these sub-variants are spreading rapidly in different places.

How many deaths due to Covid so far?

Apart from India, an increase in Covid cases is also being seen in South Korea. According to data from 42 children’s hospitals, the number of children’s cases increased from 387 between July 22-26 to 1080 between August 5-9. There are signs of spread of Corona in 27 American states also. According to WHO, there have been more than 775 million cases worldwide since the pandemic began in 2020, while more than 7 million deaths have occurred.

What problems are happening in HMPV?

Cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) are also spreading rapidly in India. Concerns about this are increasing across the world. This virus affects the respiratory system. Winter is considered favorable for this. Many of its symptoms are similar to Covid, which include respiratory problems, cough, fever, nasal congestion and difficulty in breathing.
