First was Lakshmipathy Balaji and second was R Vinay Kumar.
Morkel became bowling coach on the recommendation of Gautam Gambhir
Morne Morkel was selected on the recommendation of the new head coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir, who was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants, was very impressed with Morkel’s coaching abilities. Based on his experience of working with Morkel, Gambhir chose him as the Indian bowling coach. Morkel will soon join his new role at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Kolkata, where he will oversee the Duleep Trophy matches and work closely with NCA head VVS Laxman and bowling head Troy Cooley.
Why were Balaji and Vinay Kumar left behind?
According to sources, Morne Morkel was selected on Gautam Gambhir’s recommendation, while other potential candidates like Lakshmipathi Balaji and R Vinay Kumar were not included in the selection process. A BCCI source said – “The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) was entrusted with the task of interviewing candidates for the head coach. But Gautam Gambhir’s choice was given priority in the selection of the support staff. Gambhir has worked with Morkel and sees him as an excellent bowling coach.”
