GST Return Deadline News Businessmen who could not file GST returns due to technical glitch in the GST portal no longer need to worry. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC) has extended the deadline for filing GSTR-1 form till January 13. CBIC has given this information by posting it on X late evening. As soon as this information was received from the post on During the day, information was given by CBIC through social media post that the GST portal is facing technical problems.
Efforts are being made to fix it. We hope it will start working again after 12 noon. However, during the day itself, it was announced through a post on X that extension of the deadline was being considered. Along with extending the deadline for filing GSTR-1 form for October 2024 to December 2024 till January 13, the deadline for taxpayers filing taxes under the QRMP scheme has been extended till January 15.
That’s why the limit was also increased
The deadline for filing GSTR-1 form was earlier kept till January 11. The main reason behind extending the deadline is technical hurdles, but it has also been kept in mind that January 11 is a Saturday. Which is not a working day for multinational companies.
This is the loss caused by not extending the deadline
Due to GST portal being down on January 10, apart from filling GSTR-1 form, other work of businessmen was also halted. Tasks like obtaining information about past data and responding to government notices could not be done. If this deadline was not extended then GSTR-2B could not be made without filling GSTR-1 form. Without this, businessmen are not able to avail input tax credit. Without GSTR-2B, traders would have to pay all GST related tax dues in cash. This could also affect the cash flow of businessmen. For companies that avail large amounts of input credit, there could be a lot of problems.
