Greater Noida Woman Loses 51 Lakh Rupees in Invest SCAM via a Whatsapp Group Tips to Stay Safe

More than Rs 51 lakh has been cheated in an online scam with a woman in Greater Noida. The woman was added to a WhatsApp group, where she was given a free Amazon voucher. In order to earn more money, women came into scammers and downloaded an investment app. Here she continued to invest money, but instead of investing this money, she kept going into the scammers’ pocket.

Unknown person made contact on social media

According to reports, Meenu Rani, a resident of Greater Noida, was approached by a person named Hari Singh on social media. Hari Singh described himself as an investment expert and included Meenu in a WhatsApp group. A few days later, a woman named Aarti Singh contacted Meenu and said that Hari Singh has gifted an Amazon voucher of Rs 1,000 for every group member. In this way Scammer managed to win Meenu’s trust.

Greed for earning on investment

Once won the trust, Hari Singh lured the victim woman to invest money by investing money. The woman came under this greed and transferred Rs 50,000 to the scammers’ account. After this, the scammers asked the woman to download an app. It was shown the deposit amount of the woman and the profit earned on it. In the talk of scammers, the woman transferred a total of Rs 51.5 lakh to the account of scammers. Later, a relative of the woman told that it could be a scam. After this, when the woman asked for her money from the scammers, they blocked it. The victim has now complained to the police.

How to avoid such scams?

• Do not click on the link and attachment given in the message or email received from an unknown person.
• Never download the apps from the link sent by an unknown person.
• Do not share other information including your bank account details with any suspect or unknown person.
