The focus on remote work is having an impact
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt believes that Google’s work from home (remote work) culture is responsible for lagging behind in the AI race. He criticized Google’s remote work policies and said that the company is putting more emphasis on remote work and work-life balance, due to which its performance is getting affected.
Due to this, new companies are moving ahead
Eric was participating in a conversation at Stanford University. According to a report in the Times of India, during the conversation, Eric said that the reason for Google lagging behind in the AI race is its focus on remote work and work-life balance. The report quotes Eric as saying that Google’s focus on flexible work arrangements has left it behind startup companies like OpenAI and Anthropic in AI development.
He has been the CEO of Google for 10 years
Eric Schmidt was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google from 2001 to 2011. He said that while on the one hand the employees of new companies are working dedicatedly and working hard to stay ahead of the competition, on the other hand companies like Google are focusing more on a relaxed work environment, which is adversely affecting the innovation capabilities.
Hard work is necessary to stay ahead
The former CEO of Google has been a longtime supporter of the office culture and has previously criticized cultures like work from home or remote work.
