Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar Press Conference: The Indian cricket team has reached Sri Lanka to play the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Where it will play a bilateral series of 3-3 T20 and ODI matches. Earlier, the new head coach of the Indian cricket team Gautam Gambhir and the chief selector of the Indian cricket team Ajit Agarkar held a joint press conference, in which they were seen answering many questions. But they gave vague answers to the questions raised on the absence of Sanju Samson and Rituraj Gaikwad.
Decision to choose Suryakumar Yadav as T20 captain
First of all, the question was about not making Suryakumar Yadav the T20 captain and Hardik Pandya the vice-captain. Ajit Agarkar said that this decision was taken keeping in mind Pandya’s injury. Agarkar said – “We wanted someone who is more available as captain.” But the question arises that why was Pandya considered the future captain earlier? Pandya had captained the team 16 times and now he is not only the captain but also the vice-captain, and is also out of the ODI team.
Why is Ravindra Jadeja out of the ODI team?
Questions were also raised over Ravindra Jadeja’s exclusion from the ODI team. Agarkar clarified that Jadeja has not been removed but has been rested for the upcoming Test series. This indicates that ODIs may be Ravindra Jadeja’s second priority.
Absence of Sanju Samson, Rituraj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma
Questions were also raised on the exclusion of Sanju Samson, Rituraj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma. Samson had scored a century in the last ODI, yet he is not in the team. Rituraj won gold in the Asian Games and played in different slots, but still he did not get a place in the team. Abhishek Sharma is also not in the team despite his performance in T20. When asked about these players, Agarkar avoided the question and said – “It is difficult to leave out every player. We have to see who has been selected.”
