The buying by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in the Indian stock market is currently in top gear. Foreign investors, who returned to the buying path about one and a half months ago, have bought a lot of Indian shares this month. They have bought shares worth about Rs 34 thousand crores in the Indian market so far in July.
Total figure crosses 49 thousand crores
According to the data of National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), foreign portfolio investors have bought Indian shares worth more than Rs 33 thousand crores in the month of July. The total figure of their purchases has reached Rs 33,688 crore. If we add debt, hybrid, debt-VRR etc. along with equity, then the investment of FPIs in the Indian market this month has reached Rs 49,204 crore. This figure of FPI investment is till 27th July.
So much investment has come so far this year
According to the figures, if we look at the debt segment only in the month of July, so far an investment of Rs 19,223 crore has come from foreign portfolio investors. Talking about the whole year, FPI investment in the equity segment in the Indian market has reached Rs 36,888 crore, while the total investment in debt has reached Rs 87,846 crore.
Buying started from last month
The figures of NSDL show that FPIs have returned to the path of buying in the Indian market from last month after a long sell-off. In the month of June, FPIs had bought Indian shares worth Rs 25,565 crore. They became buyers in the last fortnight of last month. Before that, they remained sellers during the first two weeks of June. Their stance changed from the third week and since then they have started buying Indian shares again.
Were selling since the beginning of the financial year
FPIs were sellers since the beginning of this financial year. In the first month of the financial year, April, FPIs sold shares worth Rs 8,671 crore. After that, in the month of May, foreign portfolio investors sold Indian shares worth Rs 25,586 crore. In the first month of the year, January 2024, they sold Indian shares worth Rs 25,744 crore. However, after that, in two months, shares worth Rs 1,539 crore in February 2024 and Rs 35,098 crore in March were bought.
