Anshuman Gaekwad Passed Away at 71: Today is a day of tears for everyone associated with Indian cricket. In fact, former brilliant batsman and coach of Indian cricket Anshuman Gaekwad passed away in Vadodara at the age of 71. Gaekwad played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987. After his playing career, he became a selector and then also became the coach of the national team.
Former cricketers had appealed for help for treatment
Recently, when the news of his illness came out, many former cricketers had appealed to the BCCI to help him, including 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. Later, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a relief package of Rs 1 crore for his treatment. Anshuman Gaikwad had blood cancer. Anshuman first went to London for treatment and was later admitted to a hospital in Vadodara. But unfortunately he could not be saved and he passed away late on July 31.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on the death of Gaikwad
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the family of Anshuman Gaekwad on his demise. He wrote on the message- “Shri Anshuman Gaekwad ji will be remembered for his contribution to cricket. He was a talented player and an excellent coach. I am saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”

BCCI secretary Jay Shah also posted on Instagram and expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Anshuman Gaikwad. He wrote- “My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Shri Anshuman Gaikwad. This is a sad incident for the entire cricket world. May God give peace to his soul.”

Memorable innings of Anshuman Gaekwad’s career
In his sports career, Anshuman Gaekwad played many memorable innings. His innings of 201 runs played in 671 minutes against Pakistan is still remembered. He scored 81 runs while batting without a helmet against West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding, which is a symbol of his courage.
