EY Pune: It is the responsibility of the company to maintain work-life balance in the lives of employees. But, now competition has increased to such an extent that people have started working beyond limits. Words like layoffs, which were heard occasionally in the earlier years, have now become a daily affair. Employees have also started working more to keep themselves safer than others. Till now we have heard about deaths due to overwork in Japan. These are called Karoshi. Now such painful deaths have started happening in India as well. A 26-year-old employee of EY Pune has fallen victim to similar circumstances. The mother, saddened by the death of her daughter, has written an emotional email to the India head of the company and appealed to stop glorifying overwork.
Ana Sebastian Peril worked in EY Pune
EY Pune is counted among the leading accounting companies. 26-year-old chartered accountant Anna Sebastian Perayil from Kerala used to work in this company. She died recently. Now her mother Anita Augustine has written an emotional email to EY Pune’s boss Rajiv Memani. In this, she has said that the company’s human rights value is far from reality. Backbreaking work is considered good in the company. Due to this, her daughter started living under stress. Ultimately, she died within 4 months of joining.
Started my first job in March this year
Ana Sebastian cleared the CA exam in the year 2023. She joined EY Pune in March 2024. Since this was her first job, she was working very hard to live up to the expectations of the company. This had a bad effect on her physical, mental and emotional health. Anita Augustine has written that she used to get less sleep. She used to be under stress. Despite this, she kept working. She felt that by working hard she would find a way to success.
She used to work on weekends and till late night
Ana Sebastian’s mother has claimed that many employees of the company have resigned from their jobs at EY Pune due to excessive workload. After this, Ana’s boss put more pressure on her. Her meeting timings were changed. Often she was given work only after office hours were over. Her daughter used to work from home till late night apart from weekends. The company officials even made fun of her. Once she was given such a work at night, whose deadline was the next morning. When she protested, she was told that we all do this.
The company’s employees did not even come to the funeral
He wrote that my daughter was a fighter. We had asked her to leave the job but she did not agree. She kept working even under heavy pressure. She did not know how to refuse. This city was new to her. The language was new. She crossed all her limits and today she is no longer among us. She died on July 20, 2024. He alleged that the employees of EY Pune did not even attend his daughter’s funeral.
