Matthew Mott’s tenure as coach ended after the T20 World Cup 2024 and now he will be replaced by New Zealand’s legendary cricketer Brendon McCullum. McCullum, who is already the coach of England’s Test team, will now also coach England’s ODI and T20 team from January 1, 2025.
Brendon McCullum has changed the mindset of the England Test team because now the players of the team are seen playing Test matches like an ODI match. McCullum also expressed happiness over this new project and said that he is thrilled with the news of coming into the new role. Let us tell you that as per the new contract, McCullum will remain the coach of the England team till the end of the year 2027.
Speaking about his appointment as the new coach, McCullum said, “I am ready to accept this new challenge. I am excited to work with captain Jos Buttler and decisions have already started being taken to strengthen the foundation of the team.”
Who is the interim coach now?
Brendon McCullum will take on the new role from January 1, 2025, but Marcus Trescothick remains the interim coach of England’s limited overs team after the departure of Matthew Mott. Marcus will remain the coach during the upcoming series against Australia and then the series against the West Indies in November.
McCullum will start his tenure as the coach of the ODI and T20 team with the series against India in January 2025. Let us tell you that now after becoming the coach of all three formats, Brendon McCullum will have the responsibility of getting good performance from England in T20 World Cup 2026, ODI World Cup 2027, Champions Trophy 2025 and World Test Championship 2027.
