Dimple Kapadia had narrated an anecdote many years ago behind getting selected for the film Bobby. She had told how Raj Kapoor first rejected her and then called her to inform her about her selection.
How was Dimple Kapadia selected for ‘Bobby’?
Around 2018, Dimple Kapadia had mentioned how she got her first film at the FICCI Flo Jaipur chapter. According to reports, Dimple Kapadia had said, ‘I remember the day when I was in school and saw an advertisement in a newspaper that Raj Kapoor was looking for a new girl for ‘Bobby’. I told my friend that I am Bobby. I went for the test but was rejected. I was told that I look older than Chintu (Rishi Kapoor).’
Dimple Kapadia further said, ‘At that time I came back but later I got a call from Raj Kapoor’s office. I was told that I have written about my medical condition in my profile. So I said yes, then I was told that Raj Kapoor has called him to the office.’
How did a disease get you a big role?
Dimple told that due to leprosy, Raj Kapoor called her that day, took a test and selected her for the film. However, Dimple also mentioned that she was cured later. Dimple also told that when she was 12 years old, her father’s friend who was a film director came home and made some sarcastic comments on Dimple’s illness which she did not like and then she decided that she will definitely do something big in life.
Dimple Kapadia had faith in ‘Ram Naam’
Dimple Kapadia was born on 8 June 1957 in a Gujarati-Hindu family in Mumbai. It is said that Dimple was a bright student since childhood but was also religious. Since childhood, she used to fill her notebook with ‘Ram-Ram’ and believed that by doing this, there is always magic in her life and she gets what she wants.
At the Jaipur event, Dimple Kapadia had also said, ‘When I used to fill my notebook with Ram Ram written on it, a miracle was bound to happen.’ Dimple Kapadia’s fortunes changed with one call from Raj Kapoor.
