India South Africa Match Fixing 2000: The South African team visited India in the year 2000. 2 Tests and 5 ODIs were played between the two countries, but this tour remains a topic of discussion till date due to the match fixing case. Now a new update has come out in this case. On Wednesday, Delhi’s Patiala House Court has prosecuted Rajesh Kalra, Sanjeev Chawla, Krishna Kumar and Sunil Dara. Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Priya had formally framed charges against these people, but they denied the allegations and claimed to prosecute.
The court has approved to proceed with the case on the basis of evidence found on 14 October. Apart from this, summons were sent to some witnesses to testify. South African cricketer Hansie Krohn was also accused in this case, but he died in 2002. The second accused Manmohan Khattar is absconding. On 11 July, the court had framed charges against four persons, including bookie Sanjeev Chawla, Krishna Kumar of T Series and 2 other persons. It was also told that Sanjeev Chawla is the mastermind of this entire case.
The then South African captain Hansie Krohn was also accused in the year 2000, but after his death the case against him was stopped. Let us remind you that in the year 2000, Delhi Police had registered an FIR, while in 2013 a charge sheet was presented against 6 accused. The court said that all the incidents, call records, archives and surrounding circumstances indicate collusion. All these incidents were linked together and the charge was framed that Rajesh Kalra, Krishna Kumar, Sunil Dara and Sanjeev Chawla were carrying out the incident of match fixing together. Sanjeev Chawla has been termed as the mastermind of cheating.
