Corona Virus in Wild Animals: After humans, the coronavirus-causing virus SARS-CoV-2 is now spreading rapidly among wild animals. Virginia Tech conservation biologist Amanda Goldberg has informed that this virus has been found in many wild animal species. In some species, its infection has reached 60%, which is alerting the world.
Swab samples were taken from more than 800 animals brought from the wild and kept in rehabilitation centres. Antibodies were found in animals of 6 different species that may have been formed after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, there is no evidence of re-infection (Covid-19) in humans from these animals.
According to experts, viral antibodies are three times more in forests where humans live or visit more. Such viruses spread rapidly from humans. Cases of virus transmission from animals to humans are very rare, but the spread of this virus to wild animals has raised concerns. Amanda said that the animals in which the Covid-19 virus has been found are cottontail rabbits, raccoons, eastern deer rats, Virginia opossums, groundhogs and eastern red bats.
What could be the dangers
Experts believe that if there is an attack of mutant virus, the situation can get worse. Virginia Tech’s molecular biologist Carla Finkelstein says that due to vaccination, humans have been saved from the virus but it is spreading in the wild. Its new mutation is happening in animals because their host is now new. In future, this mutant virus can attack humans in a new way.
What can be done to stop the virus
Experts say that to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the virus will have to be monitored. Scientists have warned that all countries will have to keep an eye on the Covid-19 virus and infection, so that the virus does not spread again. If this happens, then this time it can be more dangerous, because the level of mutation has not been known yet.
