People are advised to wear warm clothes, avoid cold foods and keep themselves hydrated,” said Dr Naveed, head of pulmonary medicine at the Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar. “There is a need to drink a lot of hot water.”
Rain and snowfall are expected again on November 24 and then the weather will turn dry with sunshine over Srinagar and other parts of the valley, which will see a further drop in temperatures, which will impact weather systems across North India. “With further drop in temperatures, the possibility of early arrival of fog over North Indian plains cannot be ruled out,” the weather department said. In Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, it usually starts getting so cold from the month of December, which lasts from 21st December to 31st January. This interval of forty days is called “Chille Kalan”.
