A school student in China has made a foldable smartphone at home, doing wonders. People are surprised to hear his act and he is being discussed a lot on social media. Lan Bowen, studying at Yiling High School in Yuchang, Hubei, has prepared this phone with the help of 3D printers. He said that there are many folded vertical and horizontal models in the market, but there is no such vertical foldable phone, which after folding its screen appeared outwards. This gave him the idea of making his new vertical foldable phone.

Bowen’s Chinese social media had many videos. His first video surfaced on 16 February. In this, he was shown making a foldable phone with 16mm thickness. He prepared a frame using 3D printers bought at a price of about Rs 24,000. The rest of its components took out from the old phones of the family and ordered some material online. He told that while making the phone, the biggest challenge before him was to make the touchscreen functional.

Bowen said that touchscreen was not working when the phone was unfolded. He had to work hard on this. He told that he had to change the design of the phone several times. A lot of tests were done on this to make it functional. He had spoiled several screens during testing before making the touchscreen functional. Bowen further explained that his model is still in the early stage and there are many shortcomings, which are yet to be removed. However, he expressed happiness that it is supporting all the functions with a normal mobile phone.
