CAS Verdict on Ana Barbosu Gymnastics: There has been no dearth of controversies during the Paris Olympics 2024. On one hand, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified before her weight was 100 grams more. This case is going on in CAS and Vinesh is still waiting for the decision. But in the meantime, a female gymnast from Romania was also caught in a similar situation, but now CAS has ruled in favor of this athlete and declared her the bronze medal winner.
In fact, Romania’s Ana Barbosu was first declared the bronze medal winner, while American gymnast Jordan Chiles finished fifth. But Chiles’ coach demanded an immediate investigation, after which the American athlete was given the bronze medal position. The Romanian Olympic Committee was not at all happy with this, due to which they appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
CAS rejected the judges’ investigation during the floor exercise in gymnastics and said that the American athlete was wrongly given points. Due to this, Chiles’ points were deducted, due to which Ana Barbosu has once again come to the bronze medal position. After this decision, Ana Barbosu was given the bronze medal and the medal was taken away from America’s Jordan Chiles.
Vinesh Phogat’s case is also going on in CAS
This is the same CAS in which the case of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat is also going on. Vinesh was declared ineligible due to being 100 grams overweight. The Indian wrestler argued that she should be given the silver medal. So far, many arguments have been presented in the hearing, but no decision has been taken yet.
